A few years ago I learned about a strange phenomenon being reported on the desert roads outside Yakima, WA. I haven't seen the so-called vision myself, (though I've performed in the town several times at the annual folk festival,) but I thought the story - as bizarre as it may be -was at least deserving of a song. Oddly enough, this song made the top 10 in the indiemusic.com charts for several weeks, so maybe a few other folks thought so, too.

OUR LADY

When I was a kid in Catholic school,
I use to think it would be pretty cool
to see a vision of the Blessed Mama,
Just like those kids over in Fatima.

Well I heard Karl Jung said
It was a really good sign
All this attention being paid
To that Mother Divine.
He called it a rebirth of the feminine
and a chance for the Goddess
to be heard from again.

Well you probably already
know about Guadalupe.
And you’ve heard about Lourdes,
The sight of that famous shrine.
Well if one more can get past your doubt,
I’m wondering if you’ve heard about
Our Lady of the Highway Signs?

The nuns they said the Lord Divine
would hear our prayers
and he’d show us a sign.
Wonder if sheet metal in the sunshine
was really the kind that they had in mind.
